Cleaning Keeps Oak Furniture Beautiful

Posted on March 14, 2008 - Filed Under Home & Garden |

For most people, purchasing furniture is a pretty big deal. First you have to decide what kind of furniture you want. Then you have to save up for it, and then you have to shop around to find exactly what you want at the right price. After all that time, effort and expense, you’ll want to keep your furniture looking great as long as you can, right?

If you’ve opted for oak furniture, you’ve selected a beautiful, sturdy wood that can last for years and years if you take care of it properly. If you want to keep your oak furniture looking its best, you’ve got to keep it clean.

First, make sure everyone in your household knows that your new oak furniture requires some extra care and attention. Use coasters and placemats or tablecloths to protect your oak furniture’s surface.

If something spills on your oak furniture, it needs to be cleaned up with a soft, dry cloth or damp sponge right away. If necessary, use a small amount of non-alkaline soap on the sponge. Dry your oak furniture thoroughly after cleaning with soap and water. Nearly all food and drink spills won’t do any damage to oak furniture if they’re cleaned up right away. If you leave spills untreated, you’ll end up with permanent stains and ugly discoloration.
