Is Life Really One Big Vacation for Flight Attendants?
Posted on February 5, 2008 - Filed Under Travel |
Many people believe if they had a flight attendant career, life would be one big vacation. Flying from exciting city to exciting city, staying in great hotels for free and getting away from our dreary home lives sounds so appealing.
Yet if you could read a flight attendant blog, you’d discover it isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Flight attendants must complete intense, very competitive training at flight attendant school. Then they must work under demanding and exhausting conditions.
All flight attendants begin work on reserve status. This means they fill in for other re-routed crewmembers or those on vacations or out sick. For up to a year or perhaps more, flight attendants must be available on extremely short notice to travel anywhere in the world. How much do you think you would enjoy Miami if you had just hours to pack, needed to drive to a designated airport and then worked a full day before you even arrived?
Don’t forget that flight attendants work weekends and holidays and must put up with all kinds of people every day. They do much more than pass out peanuts and fly around from one exciting free vacation to the next.
