Not Checking for Asbestos? There’s No Excuse

Posted on March 15, 2008 - Filed Under Real Estate |

Most people aren’t completely ignorant about the risks of remodeling or doing demolitions without checking for asbestos first. Although you might have heard that disturbing asbestos can be a health hazard, you might be tempted to skip an asbestos survey and just get down to business. Maybe you don’t know how to conduct an asbestos survey and finding out seems too complicated. Maybe you think it’s really not that big of a deal.

In fact, asbestos exposure is a very big deal. Millions of people have suffered illness and death due to exposure to asbestos over the past century. Many of them had no idea they were being exposed to a hazardous substance. Given the choice between developing a life-threatening disease and conducting an asbestos survey, how many of them do you think would opt for asbestos testing?

If you don’t want to learn how or you’re not comfortable with the process checking for asbestos involves, have a professional do it for you. Nothing is more important than your health. Certainly, temporary convenience or saving some time on your remodel cannot be worth risking cancer. If you are worried about the cost involved in removing asbestos if it is found, consider the costs involved in treating cancer.
