The American Express Centurion Card is Legendary

If you’re into status symbols, you’re probably dying to get your hands on an American Express Centurion Card. This is the elusive Black Card that is issued by American Express and provides cardholders with some really exclusive benefits and privileges.
The whole Black Card thing actually started because of a rumor. In the 80s, people used to talk about a special black card that allowed individuals to shop after hours at ritzy stores and charge whatever they liked with no spending limit. Turns out there was no such card, but American Express took advantage of the hype by making one in 1999.
People who shun credit cards that charge yearly fees will baulk at the annual fee for the Centurion Card. Originally, the annual fee was $1,000. Today it is $2,500, and there’s a one-time joining fee of $5,000. If you wanted an additional card, it would be another $1,500. But unless you’re a millionaire or you spend a lot on credit cards through your business, you aren’t likely to have to worry about it.
You have to meet some pretty strict criteria to get a Centurion Card. You need extraordinary credit, a lot of financial assets and you have to spend at least $250,000 a year.
